Editing on Palace can be a bit frustrating at first, but you'll soon get the hang of it. A lot of people that learn how to create their own clothing and avatars prefer to make their avs on another painting program (preferably one that can zoom in a couple times to see what your doing!)
I myself use Paint Shop Pro, and I have a pretty popular web page for learning how to edit in PSP and how to create new doll bodies, new clothing, and stuff like that. You can find the link to that web page below that says Veriria's Palace.
Anyways, here's a list of all the various things you can do with the Palace editing feature.

First off, you need avs first! Click on the little suitcase in the lower right hand corner, and that will bring up your prop bag. So make sure you have some avs and props that you want to edit. To get to Palace's edit, click on the av that you want to edit, then click on the Edit button.
A rather large box will pop up, with the prop that you had previously clicked on, and zoomed in once or twice. You will notice there are 4 buttons along the left side, along with the 'Palace Palette'. There are also a number of choices along the bottom side of the window.
These buttons should be rather self-explanetory, but I'll list them and their functions here too.
| Pencil Tip |
This is the tool that you use to draw. |
| Dotted Line |
Use this to drag a selection around a part of your av. |
| Eraser |
Use to erase mistakes or backgrounds |
| Lines |
Click this button several times to change the width of the line. |
| Palace Palette |
These are all the colors that are allowed on Palace. |
| Check Boxes and Shortcuts |
| Head |
Clicking on this makes your 'tennis ball' head dissapear. |
| Ghost |
Makes your prop appear transparent. |
| Rare |
Makes this come out of your prop bag when checked if you drag the prop off of yourself. -- I don't think its a very useful feature but eh o well. |
| Anim |
Check this to animate your props. You can make eyes blink, mouths move, and much much more. |
| Bounce |
If you want an animation to last even long check this and your animation will bounce back and forth from begining to end. |
There are also short-cut keys you can use. For instance, the ctrl key when pressed in the edit box becomes a color dropper icon, and you can use it to pic up any color on your prop.
You can use the arrow keys on your keyboard, to move the prop tile up, down, left and right.
The alt key becomes a paint flood icon, which allows you to flood-fill an area.
While holding down the shift key, you can make it so that you can only draw straight lines either horizontally or vertically.
To flip a prop horizontally, hold down the ctrl + shift + h keys.
To flip a prop vertically, hold down the ctrl + shift + v keys.
With all this basic knowledge, you should be able to edit quite well on palace :)
If you'd like to be able to learn how to create your own unique avs, please visit my other web site! I offer many ways and show you how to shade and create different types of avatars, and its very simple to understand. Just click the link below to Veriria's Palace.

Well, now that you know the basics, and perhaps you've already made avs in a painting program and you'd like to know how to put them in palace now, right? Its a rather simple procedure. You will need to download The Palace Palette.
Honestly I don't know why they make it so you have to use the palace palette, but eh thats how it is and there's all there is to it. Make sure you unzip this file to the palettes folder in your Paint Shop Pro folder (as this palette is for paint shop pro only). Thats all there is to it to begin to use the Palace Palette in PSP. Also remember, avatars going in to palace can be no larger than 132 by 132 pixels.
Whenever you start to make a new avatar/doll, make sure you create a new image, make the background one solid color, then immediately apply the palace palette. To do this, go to Colors in the menu bar and click on Load Palette (might be slightly different in different versions of PSP). Make sure also, you save it as a gif file (if you save your dolls at all). If you save it as a JPG file, it will slightly mess up the colors, so you don't want that.
Then to import your dolls into palace, simply drag a selection around your doll, and hit ctrl + c (which copys it to the clipboard) or go to Edit Copy. Then come back into palace and go to Edit and click on Paste Multiple Props. Your dolls should appear in your prop bag now at the top of it. Simply go into the palace edit, and delete the background on your avs and - voila! You've put them into palace :)
Sometimes, some people cannot see a few props when people do this (again don't ask me why it happens fore I do not know), even though you might be able to. To remedy this, just take off the infected prop, open it up in palace edit, and rename it in the edit box.
